Embracing 2023

As we welcome the new year, I am, of course, reflecting on the joys and disappointments of 2022, but I also want to reflect on the in-between moments.

Bath time splashes, and night time cuddles.

Saturday mornings when Michael and Pepper would pick up Caribou coffee and bring it to me in bed—Pepper always opening our bedroom door and exclaiming, “Good morning! I love you!”

Library visits, and charcuterie board lunches at home. Listening to thriller audiobooks in my car while driving to a photo shoot. Talking to friends via MarcoPolo. Wednesday night dinners at my parent’s house. Pepper having a meltdown because I wouldn’t let her watch another episode of Bluey. Trying to write in my prayer journal every day. Getting Pepper to bed early enough so Michael and I could eat ice cream and watch a movie together.

Because I know the majority of life is made up of these in-between moments. Yes, those big life memories that grace the back of our annual Christmas card are wonderful, but as I share about the elation we felt when Pepper had her first dance recital, I also want to remember the weekly dance classes. As I remember the many library story times Pepper and I enjoyed together, and her cute voice asking for coffee cake afterward, I want to remember that some weeks we were running late because getting out of our door on time was just too difficult.

In 2023, I want to embrace the in-between.

The normal.

The little moments.

The slow times in life.

The beautiful moments.

The challenges.

The waiting.

My limitations.

Where I am in life.

My work.

My family.

My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

And I hope I can document on camera some of the in-between moments you will be embracing in 2023 too. ❤️
