okc roadtrip

Michael and I recently took a mini-road-trip to his/our old stomping grounds in Oklahoma!

Back story time: After two years at Mizzou, Michael decided to switch majors and transfer to UCO (University of Central Oklahoma) which is located in the town of Edmond, OK (right outside of Oklahoma City). After a year studying at Columbia College, I knew I loved going to a small private school in Columbia, MO and didn't want to leave. So we made the decision to be long-distance for 3 years. 🙄 The deal was that we would try to see each other every other weekend, and we did pretty well! I used to hate to drive (I'm better about it now ☺️) so when I'd visit Michael I would fly to OKC from KC so I wouldn't have to drive. 🙈 The flight was so short that I would text Michael I was on the plane in KC getting ready to take off and he would head to the airport at the same time to pick me up in OKC. 😂 I think the longest we didn't see each other in person was a month but we Skyped every single day and it all worked out (obviously). 😜

Living in Oklahoma made Michael a major OKC Thunder fan so we love going to NBA games to watch them in action. This time we headed to OKC to see the Thunder play the Golden State Warriors . . . and boo Kevin Durant. 😆 (Thanks to my in-laws for the Christmas gift! ❤️)

While in Oklahoma, we always drive by Michael's old apartments, his school, and our old place. (After I graduated college and we got married, we lived in Edmond together for almost a year). But the FIRST THING we always do is go to HIDEAWAY PIZZA. No matter what time we drive into Edmond, we go straight to Hideaway. Their pizza is delicious and heavenly and there's nothing else quite like it. I even own a purple tie-dye Hideaway Pizza shirt. That is how far my devotion to this pizza goes. 🍕😍🍕

We stayed at the Sheraton in Downtown OKC which is super convenient for walking to and from Chesapeake Energy Arena. The morning after the Thunder game we had to visit our go-to breakfast/brunch place, Around the Corner. Breakfast food is my favorite, so we went all out with omelets, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. 🍳☕️ (Scroll to the bottom to see snaps of our yummy food).

Since we've made the drive from KC to OKC and back MANY times, we wanted to mix it up a bit this time. So we went to see the Lighthouse at Lake Hefner. Of course I had Michael snap a casual photo of me frolicking in the wind. 😁

Then we stopped to see this Blue Whale of Catoosa. #RANDOM 😂 Next to the whale and pond was a secluded "trail" area where I took the black and white photo of us at the top of this post. It was a fun stop but there were weird abandoned cage things all around though, so we didn't stay long. 😒😆😒🙈

Don't mind me. I'm just chillin' in a whale. ✌️

We drove home the long way to stop in our other old stomping grounds--Columbia, MO. We HAD to get pasta at Sophia's. It is spicy, divine and worth the drive. Luckily their kitchen stays open late because I think we rolled into CoMo around 9:30 that night. (Sophia's is under the same ownership of my other favorite Columbia restaurant: Addison's. Coincidence? I think not). 🍝

No matter where we are going, how long we are staying or if we've been there a million times before, Michael and I love to travel and have adventures together. I'm extremely thankful we get to live life side by side. ❤️ #sappypost 🙈

xoxo~
